THE KINGSWAY RESIDENCE
Extensive Tudor-Style Home Renovation · Attic Conversion · The Kingsway, Toronto, ON · Added Livable Square Footage

The Kingsway is one of Toronto's most architecturally distinctive residential neighbourhoods — a community of winding streets, generous lots, and homes of genuine character that reward renovation with a sensitivity and intelligence that their original construction deserves. The Kingsway Residence gave Jessica Cinnamon Design the opportunity to undertake one of its most architecturally ambitious renovation projects to date: a comprehensive transformation of a heritage Tudor-style home that honoured the character of the original architecture while expanding its livability in a way that was both unexpected and genuinely brilliant.
The defining move of this project — and the one that sets it apart from even the most accomplished residential renovations in The Kingsway — was the conversion of the home's attic into a fully liveable and beautifully finished space. Where most homeowners see an attic as storage, our team saw a volume with extraordinary potential: sloped ceilings with natural charm, a treetop perspective that no other level of the home could offer, and a sense of separation from the rest of the house that made it the natural destination for a dedicated children's playroom. The conversion required careful structural analysis, creative spatial planning to maximise the usable floor area within the constraints of the existing roofline, and a design approach that embraced rather than fought the inherent character of the space. The result is a playroom that children genuinely love — a room with its own identity, its own atmosphere, and a warmth that comes directly from the sloped ceilings and intimate proportions that define it. Built-in storage and furniture designed specifically for the dimensions of the converted attic maximise every square foot without making the space feel crowded. The material palette is lighter and more playful than the principal floors of the home while maintaining the consistent design language that runs throughout the project. The addition of this space meaningfully increases both the livability and the long-term value of the property — one of the most compelling arguments for thoughtful, design-led renovation over straightforward square footage addition.
Throughout the principal floors of the Kingsway Residence, the renovation addressed the full scope of the home's interior — from the entrance hall through to the kitchen, living areas, and principal bedroom suite — with the same commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and coherence that defines every Jessica Cinnamon Design project. The Tudor architectural character of the original home was honoured throughout: existing features that deserved to be celebrated were preserved and integrated into the new design rather than concealed or removed.
For homeowners in The Kingsway, Humber Valley Village, Sunnylea, and the broader Etobicoke luxury market seeking an interior designer who understands the particular demands and opportunities of Toronto's heritage residential stock, this project is a meaningful and honest reference. The Kingsway Residence demonstrates that a great renovation does not simply update what is there — it reveals what was always possible.
